Planning the Impossible: An Interview with Andra Olaru on Healthcare Installation Reality

You can plan a high-tech hospital down to the millimeter. But reality always has other plans.
Especially when you realize the walls in a brand-new ICU aren’t perfectly straight.
Recently, we had the pleasure of interviewing Andra Olaru from TehnoplusMedical, a leading force in the Romanian healthcare market for over 30 years.
We discussed their recent project, Leventer Băneasaand the reality of on-site installations. Here is our full conversation:
1️⃣ When you first start a big project like Leventer Băneasa, how do you begin planning such a complex space?
For a complex project like Leventer Băneasa, planning always starts with understanding the medical workflow and the client’s expectations. Before discussing products or technical details, we focus on how the space will function day by day. From there, we carefully review the architectural plans, technical constraints, and the integration with other systems in the building. With a solid plan in place, we are prepared to adapt and find solutions as the project unfolds on site. The real test will come during installation.
2️⃣ Projects often have hurdles. What were the biggest challenges you had to solve for this installation?
The ICU area was by far, the most challenging part of the installation. Although the building is brand new, the walls were not perfectly straight, which made laser measurements unreliable. In fact, our team had to take manual measurements for each individual bed space to ensure absolute precision. Another difficulty was the architectural layout: the main wall was almost entirely windowed, and the ceiling ventilation system ran exactly along the window line. So, we had to carefully adapt the installation details on site and adjust our approach to make everything fit correctly. It took us longer than I expected, but finally everyting fitted and worked as intended.

3️⃣You clearly have high standards for your work. What do you look for most when picking the products and partners you work with?
We have high standards, that’s right! TehnoplusMedical has been active in the Romanian market for over 30 years and this makes us position ourselves in superior places compared to other suppliers and this is only possible due to the superior quality and long-term performance of the products that Tehnoplus imports, such as Ropimex. We can only maintain this standard by working with partners who share the same commitment to quality and reliability. Tehnoplus does not choose its clients, we try to help everyone. We focus on offering complete, well-thought-out solutions to everyone who trusts us with theirproject.
4️⃣ Why did you feel the ropimex® system was the right fit for this specific project?
Leventer Baneasais a highly demanding private client, with strong attention to both quality and design. For a project of this level, offeringhigh-class equipment was not optional —it was essential. All Ropimex products installed in this hospital, such as: variorail system RVS, folding walls RFW, telescopes and curtains, fully met our client’s expectations in terms of functionality, aesthetics, and reliability.
5️⃣ After the work is finished and you see the final result, what part of your job do you enjoy the most?
This project was built on long-term partnerships and personal trust. I have worked closely with the team from Leventer for many years, and they knew they could rely on me to deliver the right solutions. I enjoy seeing the final result fully functional and knowing it meets both design andpractical needs. The most rewarding part of my job is seeing the space come to life and knowing that it truly supports the people using it every day.
A huge thank you to Andra Olarua for these honest, behind-the-scenes insights. It is always fascinating to see how our systems are integrated into real-world, high-pressure environments.
